Brode is officially 26 months old. His vocabulary is advancing more each day. I love this age b/c he'll pick up on a new word almost every day. When he says something new, he literally beams and awaits our appraisal!
He is now putting 3-4 words together to make sentences... sometimes he even includes a sound effect or hand gesture. For example, if we cross the train tracks and there is no train, Brode will say, "Choo-choo, go home, eat?" or "Puppy, kitty, go 'way?" when he can't find his lovies.
When he talks on the phone, he uses his sweetest little voice and will say, "Hello Mi-Mi. Come home, play!" Then, "Bye-Bye, Mi-Mi!" and he's done. Sometimes, he'll grab my phone, put it up to his ear, and say, "Um... Ree? Boo? Nena?" (those are the names he has given his cousins). He pretends to play and talk with them almost daily. So sweet, yet so sad!
Brode's favorite things to do right now: play on his four-wheeler or tricycle. Ride bikes with his daddy (hence, the helmet)! Set up train tracks or play with his Hot Wheels. And most definitely play in his pool!!
Brode has been working on his two year molars for a couple months now. They say it can take 4-6 months!! It is strange, however. There are weeks that go by when we can't tell at all and then there are weeks where he's sucking on his cheek, putting his finger in his mouth, and let's face it... a little more irritable! Let's just say, we are ready for this whole teething process to be done... once and for all.
Brode has also taken a "liking" to his potty chair. He will frequently tell us when he's gone potty or poo's. Some days, we even make it to the potty before he does it in his diaper. Now, with a newborn, we didn't want to tackle the potty training just yet (plus, they say boys take longer to train) BUT Brode is very aware of what is going on in his diaper these days that we think we may officially begin training him this summer. Wish us luck!!!
As any two year old might, Brode tests our patience at times but with consistent discipline, we are seeing progress with our son. Of course, he disobeys but the times he chooses to do what's right is so encouraging!! I try to cherish those times... it's hard being a parent at times but very rewarding as well.
Last but not least, Brode is doing a great job saying "please" and "thank you" all on his own!! The first time he did it by himself, we praised him so much and now he thinks it's so fun! Plus, when he sneezes, he does it in his elbow pocket and exclaims, "ME??" because he is thrilled to have done something grown up!
I'm sure the words will keep pouring from his mouth, the adventures will keep coming, and the training will never rest. We'll keep you posted as he advances onto the next best thing...
