Shanle Saga

3:05 P.M. - Thursday, December 18, 2008 - Original Flight Time
(changed flight to 10 a.m. due to winter storm warning in Nebraska).

5:30 a.m. - Woke up
6:30 a.m. - Started the drive to the airport
8:15 a.m. - Arrived at airport
9:00 a.m. - TRIED checking in for our, now, 10 a.m. flight
9:05 a.m. - Learn that our flight has been cancelled (sarah wants to cry) due to fog in Houston.
9:10 a.m. - Only one seat available for our ORIGINAL flight time at 3:05 p.m. (sarah wants to cry again). Andrew gets put on a 9:05 p.m. flight and standby for the 3:05 p.m. flight. We are a little frustrated at this point because we should have just KEPT our original flight!!  God has His own way though... so we trusted and waited...
10:00 a.m. - Go through screening and "settle" in the airport. We decided to NOT bring Brode's stroller because we had an earlier flight.  By now, we are wishing we had it so he could fall asleep.
12:00 p.m. - Brode falls asleep in Mommy's lap while eating yogurt.
12:30 p.m. - Brode wakes up... still doing a great job.
4:30 p.m. - Mommy and Brode have to say goodbye to Daddy, realizing he won't be able to fly standby.  This makes Mommy very sad to do this all alone... And not wanting to split up breaks her heart.  Still trusting that God has a purpose for this.
6:30 p.m.-  Mommy and Brode land safely.  Mommy learns that Daddy flew standby on the flight right AFTER us.
8:05 p.m. - Daddy's landing time.
8:10 p.m. - Daddy calls and says his plane has landed in Des Moines, IA because Omaha has cancelled all flights.
10:00 p.m. - Papa, Grammy, Brode, and Mommy finally arrive home (Brode has been a champ this whole entire time, only napping 1.5 hours in an 18 hour time frame).
10:30 p.m. - Daddy MIGHT be coming back to Omaha on a BUS!!  Are you kidding??  It's a blizzard out there!! =)
11:30 p.m. - Daddy has to stay overnight in Iowa due to bad weather (ya think?).  Poor Daddy.
---
8:30 a.m. - Daddy's NEW flight time from Des Moines to Omaha
11:00 a.m. - Daddy finally takes off after the plane was de-iced 3+ times
11:22 a.m. - Daddy lands safely in Omaha
12:00 p.m. - "Papa" picks up Daddy (Andy) at the airport
1:30 p.m. - Papa and Daddy finally arrive home
---
Total Driving Time from Brenham to Lincoln = 13 hours
Total Airport Time for Mommy and Brode = 17 hours
Total Airport Time for Daddy = 32 hours

Isn't it ironic that if we would have kept our original flight time to begin with we would have all been able to fly home together, driven home together, and slept safely at home together??  Maybe this was just a test of our faith, in order to see how we'd handle this situation.  The verse "My ways are not your ways, declares the Lord..." kept coming to mind.  Yes, we were exhausted and yes, we didn't understand the "why's" of our situation BUT we kept our focus right, we trusted God, and the most important thing of all was our safety.  That we will treasure always.  My boys are both safely here with me, now, which is the greatest gift of all.
