At 2:21 a.m. I was "rudely" awoken by a subtle "whoo whoo!" The sound caught me off guard for I had never heard it in the middle of the night before. In fact, I don't think I had ever heard such a noise... other than at the zoo.
So there I lay, quietly wondering, "what in the world is that noise?" Being an over-protective mommy, I immediately wonder if it is someone trying to discreetly make a "secret spy call" as an effort to break into our home. I check on my sleeping baby and the rest of the house... just to make sure.
Once I noticed that everything was in tact and safe and snug in bed, I quietly walked back into the bedroom. When there it was again... "whoo whoo!" This time I walked over to the window, peered out, and just listened... "Whoo whoo!" Although most of you must be thinking, "she had to have known what it was" I did not! I grew up in the city. I didn't grow up with unique animal noises and especially not in the middle of the night!
So, of course, it dawns on this "city girl" and I realize it was just an owl. I breathe a sigh of relief and lay back down... And instead of getting annoyed at this curious owl, I listened to it... even enjoyed it... and fell back to sleep.

It is nerve-racking to hear noises at night! When I would walk Ransom in the fall and it was dark, I always heard an owl hooting at the same spot. It took me a little time to figure it out too!
