"Cha-Ching!"
So I'm cleaning out old boxes and totes in order to get rid of items we don't need with us anymore. I stumble across a box FILLED with wedding cards. Before I just throw them all away, I decide to go through them and make sure there wasn't any overlooked cash or checks. To my surprise, I find TWO checks for Andrew and I dated in May and June of 2005!! My first impression was excitement, "Yeah! We found an unexpected source of income!" But my second impression was different, "I can't cash these NOW! The check-writer would wonder what happened to their checking account!" So, I need your help... what would you do? Take our poll and then leave me advice on how you would handle this situation! =) God works in wonders, doesn't HE?

Sarah, We had this happen too...not 3 years later...but at least a year later I found a check in a wedding card after the check writer called to see if we had ever gotten it! I don't think it's a big deal to just let them know you found it so they can "balance their books" or re-write you a new one if they are so inclined. You could just send it with a note in the mail...that would be the easiest way or chicken exit to the whole deal (-= Hope you get your apartment rented. It's so fun to peek in on you guys thru your blog. Brode is a doll and we will keep the housing situation in our prayers!
If I was the teller at your bank, I probably wouldn't cash the checks for you and the bank that the check came from also may not allow it to come through the system. Technically, the bank doesn't have to if they are a year old.
I'd definitely check with the person who wrote the check. If they say it is okay, you could try it, but you may run into those issues and I would hate for you to get charged for a returned check, ya know?
I just realized my advice is really negative. It is very exciting to find unexpected money! YEAH!!!!!
i wrote a check to someone for their wedding and inquired about it because they hadn't cashed it. nothing....at least a year later, it arrived late in the mail to them. she let me know, and i rewrote her a new check. my suggestion is, depending on how well you know the people, i would let them know what happened, that they were misplaced in all your moves over the past 3 years, and you just found them....let them suggest what to do next....
that's my advice!
