Birthday Week

Well, it's my birthday week! I don't know about you, but birthdays have always been special in our household. Growing up, my parents would make them absolutely special. My mom, being the creative person she is, would always surprise us with something unique. Examples include: leaving notes as a scavenger hunt and finding little gifts all throughout the day - OR - hiding gifts in our lockers at school - OR - mailing me 26 cards on my golden birthday - OR - throwing surprise parties with all of my friends. Regardless, they've always been special.

As a young girl, my mom would let me pick out a design from this little cake book and then she would take the time to make it, frost it, and decorate it just right so it was perfect for my special day. I can remember choosing a giraffe and teddy bear... :)

Now, living 12.5 hours from home, I have to admit I miss birthday celebrations! My mom still always does something special and I've already been told something awaits for me in the mail (BTW: I LOVE getting snail mail) but I truly miss celebrating my big day with my family back home. There's just something about sharing in that special day with loved ones.

Of course, my husband will do something special and I have made such wonderful friends here, so we are definitely going to celebrate. Tonight, I get to go out with a couple girlfriends (NO KIDS!!) and enjoy a relaxing, fun-filled GIRLS NIGHT OUT! Tomorrow a new friend of mine made reservations for us at restaurant in Austin! :) Saturday is my actual birthday and unfortunately my wonderful hubs has a track meet all day, so a girlfriend is taking me out for lunch! Then I'll get to finally celebrate with my hubby later that night. I guess you could say... I'm spoiled this year. My mom would be proud of my friends for taking care of her birthday girl.

My husband's birthday is in a couple weeks and both boys' birthdays are in April. I guess you could say, I'm already getting excited and cranking those wheels, trying to get ideas for my boys' big days. Because my Mom made such wonderful memories for me as a girl, I love being able to pass on the tradition. Let's just face it: it's fun feeling special!!

I remember one year for your surprise party, you went downstairs, and we were all waiting for your friends to jump out and surprise you, but they weren't...b/c they were locked in the storage room with no handle on the inside! :) Wish I could be there to celebrate with you. Have a fun weekend. Love you!
